What areas are covered?
These maps cover all of Baja from Tijuana, Tecate, Mexicali - all the way down to Land's End in Cabo San Lucas.  It is only Baja, not the mainland.

What information is included in the files?
The details of what information in included in the files are located at the following pages

  • Lowrance

  • Garmin

  • Will the maps work in my particular GPS?
These map files have been tested in literally hundreds of GPS units of varying makes and models, however it is virtually impossible for us to test with every one.

Is there a way to test if these maps will work in my GPS?
To determine if these map files will work on your particular model, please refer to the Lowrance or Garmin pages to see if your model is listed.  Below are links to a couple of sample files to use in your GPS to determine if these maps will work for you

The sample files are of the area just south of downtown San Felipe in the area of the airport, and should look something like the picture below...

Where and how can I purchase these maps?
You can download the files directly from this website.  You supply your own SD card (chip), which can be purchased at any big box store or megacenter.

    How many files are there?
The download is for only one zipped file, however, within the zipped file are around 35 individual files for Lowrance, and only 2 for Garmin (instructions and map file).

How do I download the files from the internet?
    Simple Step-By-Step Instructions...

    • Click HERE to go to the Buy Now page.

    • Select either Lowrance or Garmin.

    • Purchase the files thru PayPal.

    • After payment is received, an email will be sent with a link to download the files.

    • Create a new folder on your desktop - any name is fine.

    • Click the emailed link and download/save the zipped file to your computer in the new folder.

    • See How do I load the files onto the SD card (chip) for further instructions.

What size/capacity SD card (chip) do I need?
CAPACITY:  Bigger is not better when it comes to SD cards and GPS units.  Try to find the smallest capacity SD card (chip) you can.  For Lowrance GPS units, the largest size the units can read is 2GB.

SIZE:  Check the user manual for your unit to determine if you need a full-size SD card (chip), or a micro SD card (chip).  A micro SD card (chip) will come with an adapter to make it a full-size SD card (chip).  Using a  micro SD card (chip) with an adapter will work just fine .

How do I load the files onto the SD card (chip)?
Assuming you have already downloaded the zipped file as outlined HERE

    • Unzip the downloaded file to extract all the files to your computer into the new folder.

    • Insert an SD card (chip) into a card reader connected to your computer.

    • LOWRANCE USERS: Copy just the ".lcm" files to the root of the SD card (chip).

    • GARMIN USERS: Create a folder on the SD card (chip) named Garmin  (notice the Capitalization)

      • Copy the ".img" file into the Garmin folder on the card.

    • Insert the card into your GPS and enjoy.

Note: Garmin GPS's require that the SD card (chip) be installed in the unit before it is turned on.

How do I upload the files to my GPS?
The files are not uploaded to the GPS at all.  The GPS unit, both Lowrance and Garmin, read the file(s) directly from the SD card (chip).  If the SD card (chip) is removed, the background maps will go away, and the standard base maps included with your unit will be displayed.

How does the GPS read the files?
The GPS unit, both Lowrance and Garmin, read the file(s) directly from the SD card (chip).  If the SD card (chip) is removed, the background maps will go away, and the standard base maps included with your unit will be displayed.

How do I know if I have the most current version?
The version number for Lowrance units are located in the .lcm filenames.   The zip file also indicates the version for both Lowrance and Garmin.

Can I load my own information and still use these files too?
Yes.  You can still record, save, and load your own trails and waypoints.  This information will be plotted on top of the background maps.
